„Conrad our contemporary” conference
“Conrad our contemporary” conference is organised by Universitas Varsoviensis Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage due to 170th anniversary of Joseph Conrad’s birth. The event will take place on 14th November 2017 in Palladium Theater in Warsaw.
“Conrad our contemporary” is a conference devoted to one of the most eminent writers of the turn of the twentieth century, a writer who revolutionized English literature and left a solid mark on Polish culture. The basic premise of the conference is to show the many faces of Joseph Conrad: Polish and English, colonial and postcolonial, unknown and familiar, associated with high culture and pop-cultural.
We have invited ten outstanding Conrad specialists from Poland and abroad. The participants are: Agnieszka Adamowicz-Pośpiech, Stephen Donovan, Robert Hampson, Andrzej Juszczyk, Michał Komar, Marek Pacukiewicz, John G. Peters, Wiesław Ratajczak, Elmar Schenkel, Cedric Watts.
The honorary patron of the conference is professor Zdzisław Najder.
The strategic goal of the project is to promote the work of Joseph Conrad in Poland as well as to make the representatives of the world conradology familiar with the achievements of Polish scientists, which can be achieved thanks to the international character of the event.
